Model United Nations in Japan - Towards Promoting Linguistic Mediation and Intercultural Communicative Competence

Recent studies on foreign language teaching show evidence that it is crucial to have skills in intercultural communicative competence. This book explores the experiences of Model UN participants in Japan regarding their mediation abilities and their views concerning interacting with other students from various linguistic and cultural backgrounds. The book evaluates the understanding of perceived intercultural communicative competence improvement through the strategy of mediation in a Model UN context in Japan. Thus, this book is significant in conceptualising Model UN contexts as result-oriented tools for promoting intercultural communicative competence and could be pedagogically significant for teachers likely to find the technique of mediation in pluricultural contexts such as Model UN useful in English as a foreign language teaching.
