The critical edition of Werner Elert's work "Die Lehre des Luthertums im Abriß" (1924, 2nd edition 1926) allows new access to an important document of Protestantism from the time of the Weimar Republic. It questions the identity of Lutheran Christianity in secular modernity and is therefore also relevant today.
