Klappentext:
This publication by Paul McCarthy (Born 1945 in Salt Lake City) was created to accompany the artist's first large-scale exhibition in France, Chocolate Factory, at the Monnaie de Paris. In this complex and ambitious project, the story of a work seven years in the making merges with the history of the venue. Comprising two volumes, Chocolate Factory Paris, Pretext is an artist s book that retraces the development of the project from its very conception to its setting in the eighteenth-century salons of the Monnaie de Paris. It was entirely conceived by the artist around the imagery of Christmas in Paris and more specifically around the figure of Santa Claus and the Christmas tree, and it includes collaged texts, sketches, and drawings by McCarthy that make reference to art history, poetry, and anthropology.
