Get to know the plants of the forest with Hansel and Gretel on their exciting way to the gingerbread house and back in this mix of encyclopedia and fairy tale!
Not far from a deep forest there lived mom, dad and their two children-little boy Hansel and little girl Gretel. And because Hansel and Gretel had always been little fidgets, it was no wonder that one day they got lost deep in the woods and while trying to find their way home they came upon a witch's house made of gingerbread!
What plants did they see during their wandering in and out of the forest and how did it turn out? You can read the whole story and also get really interesting information about the forests, fields, and meadows in this richly illustrated book with seven gatefolds on each spread.

Leseprobe:
Once upon a time, in a land far far away, two siblings lived near a beautiful dense forest. Do you know what their names were? Well, none too special, but still pretty - the boy was called Hansel and the girl Gretel. Those two little monkeys could spend the whole day coming up with mischief till their mum and dad didn't know whether they were coming or going. The children loved visiting the forest with their daddy, to gather some wood. Oh, how beautiful it was, enjoying the smell of the forest, running in the dark shadows of tall trees, sinking into piles of nettles, and throwing combs at one another! CONIFERS If you follow Hansel and Gretel who are busy running between the coniferous trees or conifers, you'll learn many interesting things. What kind of forest would it be if there were no majestic trees and mysterious bushes? You can even prick yourself with some of them - meaning, the coniferous trees which are full of nettles. These woody plants also have a rough bark which can be sticky. They can surprise you by dropping a cone on your head, and give off a nice smell, too.
